What's she asking for is completely reasonable, but at the same time she has to accept if her stepson doesn't like her. It's not her place to intervene.

I would be a little salty though if my husband didn't defend me over his son. Remarrying is so complicated, even when the kids are grown.

Woman refuses to enter stepson’s home anymore after continual mistreatment, her husband takes his son’s side, creating hostility between the couple
Marriage between two people is one of the most fulfilling, beautiful, and coveted relationships one can have. The reliability, eternal companionship, and lifelong love are things everyone wants in their life. Though marriage and lifelong love are strongly desired, it doesn't mean they're without their flaws. Sometimes it's better to be unmarried than married to the wrong person. Sure, no one is perfect, but there are levels of what's okay and not okay. You're so immersed in your spouse's life that if their children don't like you, it will obviously pose an issue.
In the story below, the protagonist is a woman who's remarried later in life. Both she and her husband have children from previous marriages, and in general they are on decent terms with their stepchildren. All except one. One of her husband's sons doesn't like her at all, and makes it known. She puts her foot down after countless gripes and mistreatments. The problem isn't just that her stepson hates her, it's also that her husband is on his side. She'll have to win him over somehow.
